Tia Ashe is an entrepreneur and the owner of Love Hair Salon located in Kingston, NY. She has over 15 years of experience and is trained and professionally licensed to perform various hair replacement techniques including extensions, wigs and custom hair pieces.

While working at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, as a registered nurse in 2010, she decided to follow her passion and obtain her cosmetology license. During that time she simultaneously opened her first salon. Her goal was to create a trendy, fun and relaxed space in the Hudson Valley where all women of multi-cultural backgrounds would feel comfortable and excited to have their beauty services rendered.

Tia has participated in many hair replacement courses to hone her skills, recently receiving wig certification with celebrity stylist Tokyo Stylez. She has also obtained a Novalash Extensions certification. In addition, she has also studied under Jaylon Aaron, the creator of the 3-part sewin and Willa Kennedy who is most known for her infamous vixen sewin. Tia views education as a vital tool in the beauty industry and attends a variety of classes across the county with various stylists every year to stay up-to-date with current hair trends.

In 2016, Tia will be launching her very own hair extension line called Genie in a Bottle, which will consist of the highest grade virgin wefted hair along with maintenance products.

Tia has been featured in local publishing’s including Ulster Magazine and Kingston’s Happenings. Her salon was also covered by the Hudson Valley News Network for Love Hair Salon’s Annual Look Your Best for Academic Success Day, in which she along with her staff and friends provided a day of free services to school age girls in low income households to prepare them for the new school year.

Tia hopes to expand her knowledge and share her love of transforming beauty to make women of various backgrounds feel beautiful inside and out.

Jo Blackwell, Dop Dop Salon (Manhattan)

I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a hairdresser, and in fact, I entered beauty school at 15. By 17, I had graduated, moved to Houston, Texas and started my career at a salon called Visible Changes. Two ex-New Yorkers, John and Maryanne McCormack, owned the salon, and it was serendipitous that I just happened to walk in one day and got a job. I spent over six years with them learning and experiencing with incredible structure. When I moved to New York, I spent the next six years in unabashed creativity at the John Dellaria Salon.

Then in 1996, I opened my own salon in SoHo called Dop Dop Salon. We used ARTec, like we did at both Visible Changes and John Dellaria. I became a platform artist for them and when L’Oréal Professionnel purchased ARTec, they got me and my team. It was a great transition for me to go from ARTec to L’Oréal Professionnel. I always say that God has me where I need to be at every moment, and if I don’t fight it and go with it, I end up where I need to be.

So after over six years of incredible structure with the McCormacks, and over six years of unabashed creativity with John Dellaria, I was finally able to marry the two at Dop Dop. I think of what we do as artistry with an edge. We’re extremely creative and extraordinarily tasteful.

After 25 years in the industry, both behind the chair and on stage, I have learned that we are all on the same team. We’re one colorist, and we share the same goal – to make our clients look and feel better than they did when they came in. Never forget why we’re really in this business. It isn’t to compete. It isn’t to debase one another. It’s to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
